A small cottage with a story

1 Almshouses belongs to a terrace of three former almshouses dating from the 17th century. The building is Grade II listed, and the stone arch in the supplied photographs makes the setting feel quite different from a modern holiday apartment.

Inside, the pictures show a sitting room with a deep sofa, framed pictures and a small table by the window. The appeal is the scale: a place for two to settle after wandering through town, without a large house to fill.

Stay in for dinner

The kitchen photographs show fitted cabinets, a fridge/freezer and a washing machine. There is dining space for two, so you can keep one evening simple with food brought back to the cottage.

Upstairs, the bed has an ornate wooden frame and fabric canopy. The shower-room photographs show a shower enclosure, basin and toilet.

Malmesbury and the Cotswolds borders

This is a Wiltshire town base on the edge of the Cotswolds. Start with Malmesbury itself rather than treating it as somewhere to sleep between drives. The provider also suggests Tetbury, Cirencester and Bath as places to explore further afield.

Compare it with the village stays in our Cotswolds guide for couples. Our Broadway itinerary covers a different part of the region; it is not a walk-from-the-door plan for this cottage.
